Missy Malouff is a documentarian, curator, DJ, sound artist, and graphic designer based in Baltimore, MD. Missy has an unusual yet impressive and stunningly compatible and applicable array of skills. After graduating from NC State University with a B.S. in Statistics, she worked as a Data Analyst for two years. Then, unordinarily, despite the chance at a safe and linear career path, and with a deep longing for something 'more', she started her artistic journey as a live music photographer and videographer, traveling all over the country to document anything from small shows to large festivals. A few years later, she transitioned into portrait photography, focusing on artists and performers of all kinds. With a strong preference for analog, she is notorious for perfect blends of light, color, and texture.
Her work has been spotted across local, national, and international publications such as Baltimore Sun, Stereogum, The Washington Post, Digital Berlin, Impose, and The Paris Review. Additionally, her photographs appear in album-artwork for several Baltimore artists including Amy Reid, Noir Benny, Tomato Flower, Peral, Chiffon, and Hunter Hooligan. Her interest in photography naturally lead to a curiosity of video production and graphic design, where she demonstrates a contemporary take on composition and story-telling.
Missy's visual acumen lead to an interconnectedness in the art world, which sparked an indefinite inquisitiveness to explore other mediums and learn new skills. Her expression extends beyond the eye; she is also an open-format DJ and creative coder. She curates Aurality, a biannual ambient listening event and fundraiser, and Echolocation, a biannual educational dance party series themed around echolocating animals (Dolphin Awareness Month in March, Bat Appreciation Month in October).
She began making music with computer code in 2019, focusing on ambient tones and textures. In 2023, she expanded into DJing—often blending her music library with her coded compositions by running her laptop through one channel, and manipulating the code live while mixing.
Known for her ambient and wind-down sets, Missy approaches her selections with a refined aural palette, weaving tracks into dreamy, transformative soundscapes. Her sets often draw on elements of nature, nostalgia, cinema, technology, and the underground.
As a multi-disciplinary artist, Missy manages to combine her skills to curate artful and unforgettable productions, leaving nothing untouched. Her work ethic is undeniable, and interchangeable between being a fierce self-starter and synergetic collaborator. Technically, she could plan an event, design the flyer for it, promote, perform, and photograph the same event; but, where Missy truly thrives the most is in collective, community-oriented spaces, where artists can come together to create a unified and like-minded vision.
